Our routes will be on many favorite cycling roads in the San Francisco Bay Area. This ride starts in the East Bay Regional Park of Coyote Hills which is east and south of San Francisco.
From there we head across the San Francisco Bay. There will be a coffee stop in Los Altos, a lunch break in Los Gatos. Then we take the trail up the side of the Lexington Reservoir Dam. A climb takes us over the Santa Cruz coastal range. A ten mile downhill drops us into Soquel. Finish up the day by arriving in Capitola on the Pacific Coast. We will camp at New Brighton Beach by the Pacific Ocean.
The rides each day will explore different routes taking you through farm lands, along the coast and into the hills. There will be a rest day allowing for exploration of the towns in this area: Capitola, Santa Cruz (you could spend a whole day at the Beach Boardwalk), Soquel… The ride back to Coyote Hills Regional Park ends this journey.
Each day’s ride is a metric century. Intermediate or higher rider.
A wonderful ride through the Napa, Sonoma and Mendocino Counties in northern California wine country and out to the scenic Pacific coast.
After starting at Skyline Wilderness Park, the ride follows the Silverado Trail past vineyards and orchards. A rest stop at the quirky Jim Town Store is a treat. After lunch in the resort community of Calistoga, the ride continues to Napa-Bothe State Park outside of town. 40 miles
Day two, we ride to Hendy Woods State Park traveling through more vineyards in the Anderson Valley. We pass through several small, interesting communities: Geyserville, Cloverdale, Booneville, Philo. The terrain starts to change as you ride through forests of oak before camping in the Redwoods. 77 miles
The next day we arrive at the Pacific Ocean. Our first rest stop will be right where the Navarro River meets the ocean. What an amazing sight as you come around the corner! Because this is a shorter day, lunch will be at the campsite at Manchester Beach. 40 miles
The “day off” will be at the beach. You can play there or choose another activity in the area – horseback riding, hiking, visiting nearby Point Arena.
A full day of riding along the Pacific Coast follows as the route goes past Point Arena (worth a side trip), and through many small communities (Anchor Bay, Gualala). Greenwood State Beach is another recommended stop this day. This is the most difficult day with both miles and climbing but well worth it! 65 miles
Starting from Bodega Bay State Beach, we will ride inland through open areas before doing some city riding. Entering Sebastopol, we jump on the Joe Rodata Bike Trail to get through the major part of town. Again, there are many small communities that may require a stop along the way. The last several miles before entering the town of Napa are in farm and ranch country. 74 miles
Terrain will vary from vineyards to Redwood groves to ocean views. You will have the option to stop for wine tasting.
Intermediate or higher rider.
We will start at Groveland, Calif. (on Hwy 120), gateway to the northern entrance of Yosemite. After two days (44 miles and 25 miles) exploring this area, including riding through areas John Muir, Bret Harte and Mark Twain explored and wrote about, we will ride to the edge of Yosemite National Park. (37 miles)
The layover day will be in the Yosemite Valley. Bus tours, shopping, site seeing, hiking, cycling options.
The final day will be a partially challenging, partially easy ride back to Groveland as we ride on Hardin Flat Road which drops down to Berkeley Camp and the Tuolumne River before climbing back up to Hwy 120. (25 miles)
This ride includes a lot of climbing with steep sections. Intermediate or higher rider.
